Core Learning Day Program
Adjusting for the 2020-2021 school year
Core Learning Day Program is an alternative learning environment designed to complement San Mateo Foster City School District's 100% Distance Learning option, with in-person supplemental instruction from certified teachers.
Our multi-grade, full day, five day per week program promotes a combination of hands-on and computer based learning in a fun, social and interactive environment. It provides consistency and safety for students and parents, while creating a balance of differentiated instruction and multiple learning modalities.

Program Summary

Hours: 8:00am – 3pm
Days: Monday – Friday
Grades: K - 8th, 9th - 12th
Capacity: 20 students
How it works
Students enroll in the 100% distance learning option through the SMFCSD. According to the current SMFCSD framework, this will allow you to keep your spot at your current school, while not attending in person. Our teachers will help your student with their distance learning curriculum as well as provide supplemental learning materials.
Typical Day (Bell Schedule)The morning will be spent doing self paced work individually. Much of this work will be computer based and we are excited to employ some amazing learning software. This approach will allow students to work and learn at their own pace and teachers to provide differentiated instruction as well as assist students with assignments provided by their district school.

For lunch, students will often head to a local park to enjoy some social time and exercise. Students will also receive Taekwondo instruction several times each week.
The afternoon will be spent on enrichment, project based, and hands on learning units. Many of these units will be taught to all students in the program, while creating projects that allow students to work at different levels. For example in a unit on dinosaurs, kindergarten students may be asked to sort and classify dinosaurs, third graders may be asked order dinosaurs on a number line, fifth graders may be asked to look at physical traits of dinosaurs and make inferences about their life style, while eighth graders may research dinosaur extinction and write a paper or create a project to demonstrate their understanding. Meanwhile, our Core Leaders will be learning leadership skills while assisting the younger students with their projects.
TuitionThe situation we are facing is creating an enormous disparity in education. Students who can afford supplemental support are getting further ahead, while students whose families are struggling are getting further behind. CoreTKD has always been dedicated to providing scholarships to families who need it and we would like to do the same with our new Day Program.
To ensure we can pay staff to cover this extended duration, tuition is set at 11 monthly payments of $1300 for the school year (20% sibling discount).
Included in this fee is:- A consistent learning environment and cohort
- Unlimited online Taekwondo classes for your entire family ($325/m value)
- Free October, Winter and Spring camp for each enrollee ($2000+ value)
To promote equality, CoreTKD will be providing several full scholarships for this program. Families that are in need may also inquire about financial aid. For families who wish to make a tax deductible donation to our scholarship program fund, please contact us.
Should SIP go into effect this school year making us unable to provide this program in person, monthly payments for that duration will be reduced by 15% and we will provide additional virtual learning and social opportunities in addition to supply kits (as we have done for Core Learning, Core Leaders and Camp).
Please note that a full school year committment is required for all students who enroll in Core Learning Day.
